Occupations that will disappear
by joker inwhile growing up in the cult one thing that always bothered me was the way witnesses could forecast jobs/occupations that we're going to vanish in their new world.. for example, we would usually discuss at saturday night wt studies how doctors, nurses, funeral directors, and soldiers would go the way of the dodo.
i always found discussions like that just so strange.. in hs, i mounted an unsuccessful effort to enter veterinary sciences, the big answer was always "why" it won't be needed after armageddon 😝😜.
does anyone have their own story about professions that the witnesses believe will not be needed after the big a ?.

the good news is your 3 score and ten is now overspent--so its the resurrection queue for you.
the even better news is you can now leave everything to the society. you might even get a thankyou email from them.

Leaving story
by leavingeverythingbehind ini've been following this forum for a couple of years now, but it's only just now that i've decided to register.
it's been quite a long and strenous process leaving the org, having been borned and raised in and spent so much time in.
i'm so gratefull there's the internet these days which helps new people find their way out of this and other religions.

You probably don't remember the Portsmouth / Leigh Park witness wife-swapping escapades of the 70's....
I remember hearing about this from an elder. Some elder was recording himself and his wife getting it on with a younger sister. Meanwhile some brothers were watching it on the TV downstairs. Loads of people got DF'd for it.
ha ha--yes--i eagerly await the video. but--Leigh park fer crice sake--i know it well....

Griffin Assembly Hall (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) now a Megachurch
by Sanchy inmy mom, while pregnant with me, was one of thousands of jw volunteers to work on the construction of this once beautiful assembly hall in south florida circa 1984. it had a beautiful pond, waterfall, and even a resident alligator.
many remember it as well for it's huge plaster murals on the walls showing scenes of paradises.. pics as it was before (sorry for the low quality, struggled to find good pics of the auditorium as it was, if you have any good ones, do share them):.

We were also told that with the funds raised from the sale of this one we would pay off the loan due for the West Palm Beach auditorium
where did the loaned money come from ?

Why do some Jehovah's Witnesses choose to be atheist or agnostic?
by Cassaruby in"traumatic as the initial transition may be, it can lead to the development of a truly personal relationship with these two greatest friends [the father and the son] .
.. "whatever sense of 'belonging' that membership in some religious system may create, it can never compare with the power and beauty and strengthening benefit of the intimate personal relationship the scripture presents .
from reading joseph campbell i've come to understand that there are functions to religion or mythology.

i never chose to be a jw. my parents did--when i was a kid. i had no choice. when i was a grown man--married--my own kid on the way--i chose to resign from the jw cult. i did not believe in god, the devil--angels demons etc. no interest in living forever. so--remaining a jw was not an option for me. why would i want to choose to remain in such a narrow minded insignificant silly religion. i had much better things to do with my life.

my old dad died a year ago--aged 95. we got baptised together when i was 14----that was 54 years ago. i resigned from the cult when i was 23. it never stopped dad and i having a normal relationship--we just rarely talked about his religion. he told me at one stage--that he could find nothing in the bible that meant he couldnt talk to me.
he was an elder for years back in the '70s.--but i dont think he accepted a lot of watchtower dictaat.
i think--but cant prove--my kids started to withdraw from him in his last 10-15 years--maybe because they realised we were still close. i do know my daughter never once visited him in his care home in the 3 years he was there. she lives less than a mile away.
